NCCCO Overhead Crane Operator Prep Course

Description

The NCCCO Overhead Crane Operator Prep Course will prepare students for successful completion of the NCCCO written exam and practical test.

Students who successfully complete this NCCCO course will be confident in their preparation for the test and will also be able to competently perform the job requirements of a overhead crane operator.

* Please Note – This is a Prep course ONLY.  Written and Practical exams will need to be booked separately *

Objectives

Students will take part in classroom exercises and hands-on sessions designed to give them an understanding of how to operate two types of overhead crane: Cab operated or pendant / remote control. 

Agenda

The NCCCO Overhead Crane Operator Prep Course will cover the following topics:

  • Crane safety procedures
  • Inspection requirements and elements
  • Mechanical and technical systems
  • Structural elements
  • Electric, air and hydraulic systems
  • Hoists
  • State specific inspection requirements
  • OSHA / ANSI standards 

Assessment

Learning is through a combination of classroom exercises and hands-on practice.

The NCCCO Overhead Crane Operator test consists of two parts, a written test and practical exam.

  • The written test consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and candidates have 60 minutes to complete.
  • During the practical exam, candidates will need to demonstrate operator proficiency in either of the following overhead crane types:
    • Cab operated
    • Pendant / Remote Control

Certificates are valid for a 5 year period; however this may vary if additional NCCCO qualifications are added to a student’s card. 

Who Should Attend

Workers who are trained and who currently work in crane operation and require a nationally recognized certification such as NCCCO. 

Prerequisites

Trainees must meet the below pre-requisites:

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Comply with CCO’s Substance Abuse Policy
  • Comply with the NCCCO Code of Ethics
  • Medical Requirements – Certified crane operators MUST continue to meet ASME B30 physical requirements throughout their certification period
