Qualified Advanced Rigger Exam

Description

ITI offers optional rigger qualification exams (written and practical) after the Master Rigger course. Candidates include riggers who are required to be qualified, meeting the OSHA 1926.1400 Rule. The applicable training course will prepare students to pass the corresponding qualification exam(s). 

Assessment 

The Qualified Advanced Rigger exams will cover the following topics: 

  • Basic Hand Signals
  • Application of Hitch Types
  • Slings: Limitations, Practices, Hazards, and Inspections
  • Rigging Hardware: Limitations, Practices, Hazards, and Inspections
  • Knots & Taglines
  • Types of Slings and Hitches
  • Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices: Limitations, Practices, Hazards, and Inspections
  • Center of Gravity
  • Load Weight Estimation
  • Effects of Angles on Rigging Components
  • Chain Hoist and Come-a-long Usage
  • Winch & Block Usage
  • Load Turning
  • Load Distribution
  • Off-level Lifting Points
  • Jacking and Rolling

Who should attend 

All students, regardless of industry or experience level, hoping to achieve Qualified Advanced Rigger status which meets the requirements of a qualified rigger according to OSHA 1926.1400. 

Prerequisites 

  • OSHA-approved hard hat*
  • Eye protection*
  • Long pants with no holes or tears 
  • Low-heeled work boots or work shoes 
  • Full-fingered work gloves* 
  • OSHA-approved safety vest* 

*ITI Training Centers will make these PPE items available for all enrolled students. Students are responsible for their own appropriate garments and footwear.
