Silica Competent Person Training Course

Description

The Silica Competent Person training course is designed to provide attendees with the necessary information to perform the duties required by OSHA’s crystalline silica standard. This course contains important information and regulatory guidance on the hazards associated with exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust and steps to be taken to protect workers.

Course Objectives

Students can expect to gain the knowledge and information needed to act as the competent person in their workplace in order to design, implement and monitor the protective measures necessary to help meet the requirements of the OSHA crystalline silica standard.

Course Agenda

The Silica Competent Person training course will cover the following topics: 

  • Definition and identification of silica and respirable crystalline silica
  • Health effects
  • OSHA regulations
  • Activities that result in the greatest risk for exposure
  • Use of personal protective equipment
  • Protective methods and ways to limit exposure
  • Use of dust prevention equipment
  • Exposure control plans

Assessment

Students will be required to successfully pass a written exam at the completion of the course and will receive a certificate of completion. Testing formats may include multiple choice questions, true/false, or fill-in-the-blank responses. 

Suggested Progression 

Students may also benefit from the Asbestos awareness training course and the Lead Awareness course. 

Who Should Attend

Anyone who has the responsibility of managing or supervising workers in an environment covered by OSHA’s Crystalline Silica standard or is required to serve in the role as a competent person at these work locations.
