Virtual PEC H2S Clear Training Course

Prerequisites

**This PEC Course is fully chargeable at the time of booking – no refunds can be provided**

Description

The PEC H2S virtual course will be delivered remotely, using instructor-led online learning. The course content remains the same as classroom-based training, however, you’ll attend a scheduled, interactive class via video conferencing. Students are required to attend full learning hours.

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) is an extremely hazardous, highly flammable gas. If you’re an industry worker operating in a confined space or a jobsite where you could come into contact with H2S, it’s crucial that you can identify the dangers and take necessary steps to control exposure. This 4-hour H2S safety training course covers essential information that meets the required ANSI/ASSE Z390.1–2017 standards needed to operate in potentially dangerous environments.

Objectives

By the end of this ANSI and PEC Safety accredited online training course, you will be able to identify potentially dangerous situations, and be able to take reasonable precautions to prioritize employee safety and protection. You will also be able to:

  • Identify the physical and chemical properties of H2S
  • Realize the dangers that hydrogen sulfide presents
  • Understand the potential sources of H2S at work
  • Recognize the symptoms of hydrogen sulfide exposure
  • Understand the routes to exposure and methods of protection
  • Select, use and maintain respiratory protective equipment
  • Put emergency response procedures into action

Agenda

Attendees will learn about hydrogen sulfide monitoring and detection, as well as how to deal with emergencies and conduct a full site shutdown, if necessary. The PEC H2S Clear Safety Training will also cover the following topics:

  • Buddy System
  • Burning, Flaring, and Venting
  • Characteristics of Hydrogen Sulfide
  • Chemical Properties
  • Corrective Actions and Shutdown Procedures
  • Dispersion Models
  • Effects of Hydrogen Sulfide on Metals
  • Emergency Response and Evacuation
  • Emerging Technology
  • Engineering Controls
  • First Aid and Post-exposure Evaluation
  • Hydrogen Sulfide in Confined Spaces
  • Hazard Communication for Hydrogen Sulfide
  • Hazards of Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfur Dioxide
  • Health Effects
  • Ignition Sources
  • Methods for Detecting and Monitoring
  • Operation of Safety Equipment and Life Support Systems
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Physical Properties
  • Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals
  • Rescue Techniques
  • Respiratory Protection
  • Sources of Hydrogen Sulfide
  • State and Federal Regulatory Requirements
  • Transportation
  • Ventilation
  • Warning Signs
  • Warning Systems
  • Well Control (Drilling Operations)
  • Wind Direction
  • Work Procedures

Assessment

Students will need to complete a written exam, to confirm students’ competency in recognizing the dangers of H2S and the precautions to take in accordance with ANSI Z390.1. You’ll be awarded the H2S Clear End User Certification.

Upon successful completion of the course, all students are issued a physical and digital PEC ID card with their name, company name, picture, barcode, and completed course. All students are automatically entered into PEC’s Advanced Training Tracker where your company’s clients and auditors can view proof of employee orientation.

Who Should Attend

General industry workers should attend this course, or anyone likely to come into contact with hydrogen sulfide at work.
