On successful completion of this HAZWOPER Training, students will receive an OSHA certificate.
This 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification is required for workers who are exposed to or involved in the clean up, treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous substances, or are exposed to IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health) atmospheres.
These workers include Site Managers, Hazmat Operations, First Responders, Emergency Responders, Firemen, Site Safety Officers and Site Supervisors.
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response
HAZWOPER training is required by employees responsible for the handling, storage, treatment and/or disposal of hazardous waste. Additionally, workers in emergency response operations involving hazardous waste must also complete the training.
The main difference between the two is the government agency that oversees the regulatory requirements for each. HAZWOPER is covered under the OSHA standards and applies to the workplace, while HAZMAT is covered by the Federal Department of Transportation and addresses the transportation of hazardous materials.
This training is geared for workers where exposure or the potential for exposure to hazardous materials is high. Training consists of 40 hours of safety and health topics outlined by OSHA standard including the selection and use of proper personal protective equipment.
