ONLINE Instructor Led Trenching and Excavation (Competent Person) Course

Overview

This one-day Trenching and Excavation Competent Person Training course will be taught in a virtual, instructor-led format and provides students the information necessary to familiarize themselves with potential and existing hazards related to trenching and excavation operations.

Students will be provided information regarding OSHA regulations and participate in group activities to demonstrate how to identify, plan and execute the necessary safety measures to protect workers and create a safe work site.

Objectives

Following successful completion of this Health and Safety course, students will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill required to recognize existing or potential hazards associated with trenching and excavation operations.

This virtual trenching and excavation course will cover the following topics:

  • Hazard identification
  • OSHA regulations and applicable standards
  • Competent person definitions and requirements
  • Atmospheric conditions
  • Proper maintenance and use of protection equipment
  • Access and Egress
  • Soil analysis
  • Shoring and Shielding
  • Sloping and Benching

Assessment

Students will be required to complete a 50-question written exam with a minimum passing score of 70% in order to successfully complete the course. Successful students will receive a certification card that will be valid for two years.
