HazCom violations rank high on OSHA’s list

While falls from height in construction continue to top the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s top 10 most-frequently cited workplace standards, the hazard communication standard isn’t far behind. The hazard communication standard, also known as the HazCom standard, saw 3,199 violations in 2020, putting it in second place on OSHA’s list. (Which, if we’re being frank, isn’t really a “top” spot anyone should strive for.)

Many industries deal with hazardous waste every single day, including construction, manufacturing, waste management, accommodation and food services, remediation services and wholesale trade.

Employers must have a written HazCom program to meet the requirements of OSHA’s standard. If you or your employees are asking, “Why a written program?” then it might be time to look into HAZWOPER training or even HAZWOPER refresher courses.

OSHA’s 8-hour HAZWOPER training course is aimed at personnel who already hold valid, in-date 40-Hour, 24-Hour or 8-Hour Refresher HAZWOPER certifications and require their annual (12 month) renewal.

This safety course will update students on any changes in related regulations, updated health & safety procedures and compliance issues. Upon successful completion, students will be provided an OSHA-compliant certification for their HAZWOPER training.

And if time or the physical location of where training would occur is of concern, many HAZWOPER training courses can be completed online. Easybook Training offers a number of online HAZWOPER courses that can be completed from the comfort of your own home or office.

There’s no valid excuse to shrug off health and safety training, especially during the wake of Covid-19.

“In a year that was defined by the ongoing pandemic, workplace safety became more important than ever,” National Safety Council President and CEO Lorraine M. Martin said in a statement. “The OSHA top 10 list reminds us why we must continue to focus on persistent safety risks as we navigate new challenges. These data help us pinpoint areas where we can improve so we can better prioritize workplace safety in the future world of work.”

Don’t wait, book your HAZWOPER training today so your tomorrow is safer.
